What Is Rally-O?
Rally Obedience is a sport in which a dog and handler team complete a timed course that has been designed by a Rally judge. The team proceeds at their own pace through a course of designated stations. Each station has a sign providing instructions regarding the skill that is to be performed. Scoring is not as rigorous as formal obedience. Placements are determined by score as well as time. Many of the exercises are similar to those performed in Novice competitive obedience.
The purpose is not only to demonstrate the dog's ability
to follow specified routines in the ring, but also to showcase dogs
that have been trained to behave in the home, in public places, and
in the presence of other dogs in a manner that will reflect credit
on the sport at all times and under all conditions. Focus is on natural
communication and the relationship between dog and owner rather than
precision. Rally is a natural progression from Canine Good Citizen
type exercises.
This class teaches exercises required for competition in
APDT Rally-O Level I competition and AKC Rally-O Novice
competition.
The book entitled "Rally-O, An Introduction to Rally Style Obedience"
which was written by Rally's originator, Charles L. ("Bud") Kramer, is available from
