What is a Reactive Dog?

Reactive dogs are dogs that become outwardly emotional at the sight of, or when in close proximity to, other dogs. They are generally overly excited or fearful and do not have the ability to contain their feelings.

They often bark, whine, growl, lunge, or jump toward another dog when that dog is at a proximity that elicits the emotion. They can look aggressive and sometimes are. Many reactive dogs are only reactive when on leash. Some are reactive whether on or off leash. Some are fine with many other dogs if not on leash and will interact quite normally until the leash is on. Some are also reactive to certain situations and people as well.

If this describes your dog please call us to discuss your best options. Generally you will need to start with a behavior consultation to assess your dog and your needs. We can then guide you through the best program for you and your companion.
