Agility Classes
We have ongoing and year-round Agility classes that can take you through
advanced training for competition or that can just enable you to just have
fun with your dog. We try to keep our classes at a 5-to-1 student/teacher
ratio.

Your dog may start agility at 9 months of age; however,
your dog's bones are not fully developed at that point, so for the safety
of your dog, he will be restricted from participating in certain exercises.
Prerequisites
-
If your dog has not completed Level Two Obedience
at Gemini, you will need to request
an evaluation prior to enrolling in class. Evaluations are $30.
At your 30-minute evaluation, the instructor will evaluate your dog's
skills and decide whether to approve you for Beginner (or one of the
advanced levels of) Agility, the Off-Leash/Agility Prep Course, or
another class.
-
Students with little or no group class experience will
be required to attend a group class in preparation for agility; specific
class level will be determined by your evaluating instructor and could
include either:
Agility Prep
Level Two Obedience
Beginner Obedience
The level selected by your evaluator based on your dog's
obedience skills including (but not limited to) your dog's ability to respond
to basic commands like sit, down, stand, stay, coming when called, and
walking on a loose leash.
-
Due to the clicker-intensive environment of our agility
classes, if you have never used clicker training, you are required to
attend a one-hour-and-fifteen-minute clicker orientation session (regardless
of your level of training). Attendance in this orientation is free of
charge once you enroll in the class recommended by your evaluator. Please
note that you will need to register via the office for one of these sessions.
We will provide you with a list of upcoming clicker orientation sessions
at the completion of your evaluation.
If you have any questions about whether your dog is ready for
agility, please contact us.
There are several levels of agility:
Please note that we occasionally skip a week due to conflicts
with other events. Therefore the 6-week course may not be held during 6 consecutive
weeks. (Registrations are non-refundable.)
In-class handlers may not be substituted. If you cannot attend
a class, you should notify the office and schedule a make-up lesson (if you
prefer) with your instructor.
Registering for Class
To secure your spot in class, you must:
This applies to all classes.
-
If the class maximum is reached, you will be notified and
we will request that you select another session.
-
If the class minimum is not reached by a certain date,
you will be notified that the class will be postponed.
